Three-time DP World Tour winner John Catlin moved one step closer to a full-time move to LIV Golf after finishing runner-up in the Asian Tour’s International Series event in Morocco.

Catlin was seeking his third win in four Asian Tour appearances in Morocco and fell just one shot short of victory after finishing runner-up to Ben Campbell at Royal Golf Dar Es Salaam. It was a bittersweet feeling for the American, who missed out on the title after losing a one-hole playoff to Campbell.

The two men were tied at 15 under par after four rounds of golf in North Africa after New Zealander Campbell rallied from his American rival’s one-shot lead established a round earlier.

And while Catlin birdied the par-five 18th hole, Campbell went one better, winning in style with a superb eagle, three. Despite the near miss, it was another impressive week for Catlin on the Asian Tour, which saw him take the lead in the International Series merit standings.

The man who finishes top of the standings at the end of the season will be promoted to the LIV for 2025, a path that HyFlyers star Andy Ogletree was able to enjoy last year. Catlin is aiming to follow in his fellow American’s footsteps and only helped him in his efforts on Sunday.

He entered this week’s tournament ranked second on the Order of Merit list, just behind Carlos Ortiz, who is already on the LIV roster. Catlin’s second-place finish this weekend, however, allowed him to take the lead in the standings as his impressive form in 2024 continues.
