Kamal Haasan aka Yaskin's look inspired by Lord Voldermont in Harry Potter? Director Nag Ashwin clarifies

Nag Aswhin, the director of Kalki 2898 AD, recently spoke about the Hollywood films that inspired his film. Is Harry Potter one of them?

Kalki 2898 AD continues to capture attention even though the film was released on June 27. From the visual effects to the storyline, fans can’t stop raving about the film. The film is directed by Nag Aswhin and stars legends like Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan And Kamal Haasan. Even though Kamal Haasan acted less in Kalki 2898 AD, the actor confirmed that fans will get to see a lot more of him in the second installment of the film. His appearance as Yaskin also intrigued many. In a recent interview, Nag Ashwin revealed the inspiration behind the characters. In a recent interview with Zoom, Nag Ashwin spoke about his inspiration from Hollywood films. There were speculations that the look of Kamal Haasan’s character Yaskin is inspired by the character of Lord Voldermont in Harry Potter. Nag Ashwin clarified that there is no connection between the two. He added that the references come from old Tibetan monks who are supposed to be around 120-130 years old. He shared that Kamal Haasan had mentioned Dorain Grey’s portrait and that was his inspiration. He said, “We didn’t have many film references for this old look.”

Nag Ashwin also spoke about his inspiration for the Marvel movie Iron Man. “We grew up watching Marvel movies. I would say Guardians of the Galaxy was a bigger influence than Iron Man. Star Wars is definitely a huge influence. I love Star Wars, so it’s subconsciously part of my aesthetic,” he added. He added that the character of Luke, played by Harshith Reddy, is inspired by Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.

Talking about the box office collection of Kalki 2898 AD, the film has now crossed the Rs 500 crore mark in net collection. Even in the second weekend, the film has done fabulously well at the box office. Talking about the worldwide collection, Kalki 2898 AD has crossed the Rs 800 crore mark. The film is expected to cross the Rs 1,000 crore mark soon and become one of the highest-grossing films of 2024.
