Klay Thompson says goodbye to Warriors in heartfelt message

Next year, the Golden State Warriors will look completely different. Klay Thompson is no longer a Warrior. This offseason, the four-time NBA champion left the Dubs to join the reigning Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks in a major move that completely changed the face of Golden State.

Thompson’s tenure with the Warriors seemed like it would last forever. They drafted him out of Washington State several years ago, and Thompson has blossomed into one of the best players of his generation. He’s been a vital piece of the puzzle on four Warriors championship teams and was one of two members of the famed Splash Bros. duo with the great Stephen Curry.

“Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words and pictures to express how I truly feel for you all,” Thompson wrote in a heartfelt message on Instagram. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for some of the best times of my life. It was such an honor to wear that Dubs jersey from day one. I truly wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships to the area as possible. But the best part isn’t the rings, it’s the friendships I’ve made that will last a lifetime.”

“My family and I want to thank all the amazing people who work tirelessly to make the @warriors organization a world class organization. Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened. Until we meet again. Navy Captain, done,” Thompson wrote.

Several of Thompson’s colleagues, including Kevin Durant, reacted to the post. The Warriors also said goodbye to Thompson with a special message.
