The ice cream parlor 90 minutes from Coventry inspired by Jeremy Clarkson’s Clarkson Farm series

As the warmer weather finally arrives, you could try a fun idea for a family day out this summer. How about a 90-minute drive from Coventry to a small village with its own ice cream parlour and windmill?

Bobby’s Ice Cream Parlour in Werrington is located in the beautiful Staffordshire Moors. The ice cream parlour is run by couple Natalie and Craig Taylor, who were inspired by Jeremy Clarkson’s hit Amazon Prime series Carkson’s Farm to open their own café on their farm.

There are many unusual ice cream names and flavours such as ‘Cherry Blizzard’, ‘Death by Chocolate’, ‘Gin & Damson’, ‘Crème Brûlée’ and ‘Mango Sorbet’, all made by Snugburys in Cheshire. There are also homemade pizzas that you can order and jacket potatoes with unique toppings such as ‘Greek God’, which includes lamb shoulder, homemade tzatziki and feta cheese.

Their philosophy is to focus on North Staffordshire produce, with a menu including homemade cakes and gluten-free options. Natalie told StokeonTrentLive: “We serve sausage rolls, jams, ice creams and fresh coffees. We’re family-oriented. There’s nothing like it in the area – it’s a bit different.”

The tea rooms and lounge are named after their three-year-old son, who is himself named after Craig’s grandfather, and the idea came about following family day trips.

Craig said: “We love going out and getting ice cream and we thought we could make it at home. We saw the opportunity. We had just renovated our house and were too busy to raise livestock so we thought it was a good solution.

“I think Snugburys is our most remote brand. It’s very popular. We have milk from Caverswall and the cakes are made locally. Our products are very local. We’re very proud of that.”

Bobby’s Ice Cream and Tea Room is currently open Friday through Sunday, but the family hopes to expand its hours in the near future. For more information about the room, visit Bobby’s Facebook page here.

Werrington sits 880 feet above sea level and has a windmill dating back to 1730, topped with a miniature turbine that generated electricity for the nearby pub. Used as an observation post by the local Home Guard during the Second World War, the shelter still stands on the roof.

There are also some great walks nearby where you can visit attractions such as the Foxfield Steam Railway, Kingsley Bird & Falconry Centre, RSPB Coombes Valley, Knypersley Reservoir and Wetley Moor Common.
