Suns’ Kevin Durant breaks silence on recent trade rumors

The NBA has seen some great talent come into the league over the years, which gives it real credibility with fans. The current star players are perhaps some of the most talented to ever play the game, including some of the oldest stars. One of them is Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, who has continued to dominate the court despite his advanced age. Durant is one of the best basketball scorers in NBA history, but he has gained a reputation over the years.

He’s a two-time NBA champion and former league MVP, but Durant seems to have been accused of switching teams on multiple occasions. His mindset regarding his current team always seems to be a topic of discussion, which hasn’t sat well with Durant. Recently, there has been talk of the Suns potentially trading Durant before the 2024 NBA Draft. However, Suns owner Mat Ishbia was quick to debunk those rumors. But that hasn’t stopped people from talking about Phoenix potentially moving on from the Durant experience.

Durant spoke with Yahoo Sports after his practice with Team USA to discuss the trade rumors that have been circulating. He noted that it’s just a narrative that people consistently use to get views.

“You can just hit the ‘KD wants to leave’ button any time you want to get attention,” Durant told Yahoo Sports in an exclusive interview Saturday afternoon after Team USA’s first practice. “Yeah, it’s a button. What’s going to make people move this time? Other than, ‘Oh, the traveling buddy is leaving again.’ That story is still going to be a big deal.”

Durant has built a reputation for changing teams over the years depending on his situation. But he’s never looked unhappy in Phoenix, which is why the trade rumors are coming out of nowhere. He’s playing alongside two other star players in Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, which gives the Suns a shot at a title. Phoenix also brought in a new title-winning head coach in Mike Budenholzer, which adds to this team’s potential.

“So when someone says, ‘Phoenix wants out of the KD business,’ I wonder where that comes from?” Durant said. “It bothers me that people lie like that and the public buys it. It saddens me when people believe lies and make up bullshit.”

Durant is here to stay in Phoenix as he looks to help the city win a title. While there’s no guarantee he’ll never ask out, Durant understands he has a good chance of winning with the Suns. He seems happy for the first time in a while, and that’s all that really matters to most players.
