Inter Milan eyeing internal options to replace injured Canadian Copa America star after ruling out former Chelsea veteran

Inter Milan do not consider Marcos Alonso as the right profile to replace the injured Tajon Buchanan. Therefore, the team could resort to an internal solution.

The Nerazzurri bought the Canadian from Club Brugge in January and while he was lacking game time, Simone Inzaghi is reportedly planning to give him more opportunities this season after identifying him as Federico Dimarco’s understudy.

The 25-year-old, however, suffered a fractured tibia during an international match with Canada, who are competing in the Copa America. The winger underwent surgery yesterday but could be out for around five months.

Last night, the president of Inter Beppe Marotta have publicly announced a move for former Chelsea and Barcelona left-back Marcos Alonso.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNewsThe Italian champions could decide not to intervene in the market.

In other words, the Nerazzurri could choose to entrust their current ranks until Buchanan returns from injury.

In this case, Carlos Augusto would revert to being a second-choice left-back.

Inter Milan not keen on signing Marcos Alonso to replace Tajon Buchanan – Carlos Augusto could be the answer

The Brazilian joined the club last summer, initially serving as Dimarco’s backup.

But after Buchanan’s arrival mid-season, the former Monza player became increasingly involved in defence, acting as Alessandro Bastoni’s back-up at left centre-back.

Augusto could therefore play a dual role next season, replacing both Dimarco and Bastoni when needed. At least until Buchanan returns from injury.

In addition, Inzaghi will also be able to count on the versatile Matteo Darmian in this position. The Italian veteran is capable of playing several roles, including that of left-back.
