Are the Sixers ready to bring back the black jerseys of the Allen Iverson era?

The Philadelphia 76ers made Tyrese Maxey’s contract extension official on Sunday as they prepare to take another step forward in the Eastern Conference. The Sixers were able to sign Maxey to a five-year, $205 million deal to form a Big 3 with Joel Embiid and Paul George.

On Sunday night, the Sixers released a heartwarming “welcome back” video to show their appreciation for everything he’s done so far in his four seasons in the league. Maxey was named an All-Star in the 2023-24 season and is expected to earn more as his career progresses.

While the video is meant to celebrate Maxey for all he’s done, there’s one small detail in the video that caught everyone’s attention: the announcement of a return to the Allen Iverson-era black jerseys.

There was also a cover of Slam magazine showing Maxey wearing black Iverson-style jerseys. The cover of the magazine read, “The fans asked and Philly answered,” adding fuel to the fire.

Time will tell, of course, but it looks like the Sixers are finally ready to bring back this style of jersey. Even if it’s their “classic edition” jersey for one season, it would be a great move for a fan base that has long clamored for the return of these uniforms.
