Robbie Slater is right: it’s time the Matildas told the truth what exactly is going on with sam kerr and this calf injuryIt was one thing to withhold information about Kerr before the attack. World Cup opener against Ireland – that’s the norm – but Australian fans are surely now entitled to a bit more information instead of being treated like mushrooms.

There are signs that the star forward’s health – or at least the constant talk about it – is becoming a distraction for the Matildas. During the week, youngster Kyra Cooney-Cross was thrown under the team’s Mercedes when she innocently remarked that Kerr had “torn” her calf, not just pulled it.

” WRONG ” : The Truth About a Commenter’s ‘Sexist’ Remark About Matilda

The Australian media machine has gone into White House press office mode to try to put an end to the idea that Kerr’s tournament is over. Can you imagine how bad Cooney-Cross felt as this circus unfolded while she was trying to prepare for Australia’s second group game against Nigeria?

It was unfair that she was put in this position in the first place and unfair teammates stand in front of the media every day and do their best to emulate Doogie Howser MD as questions about Kerr’s fitness are asked. Secrecy is no longer a tactical move.

Australia’s opponents know they will take no chances at this stage of the tournament – and tickets have been sold well in advance – so the claims that this is some kind of PR exercise are extremely false. So why the charade, the smoke and mirrors?

Robbie Slater urges Matildas to tell truth about Sam Kerr

Slater, in his Today’s Telegraph “Why can’t we have accurate information and a real update on the severity of her (Kerr’s) injury?” Slater wrote. “She is the face of the World Cup. I don’t think there is any need to play mind games with the possibility of a return in the round of 16 or later, just say it openly.”

“There’s talk that she won’t play at all. A torn calf is usually a four-week injury. You talk to any young fan and all they want to know is ‘how bad is Sam’s injury and when is she going to play?’

“They have a right to know how serious it is and whether she’s not going to play at all.”
