What is the story

Nag Ashwin, the director of the epic Kalki 2898 ADshared the Hollywood inspirations behind the film during an interview with Zoom.

Despite comparisons with Iron Man And DuneAshwin quoted Star Wars And guardians of the galaxy as his main influences.

The film, which released on June 27, stars Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, and is a marriage of mythology and science fiction.

Influence of “Guardians…” and “Star Wars”

Ashwin said: “We grew up watching Marvel movies. Guardians of the Galaxy was more of an influence than Iron Man. Certainly, Star Wars is a huge influence, I love it Star Wars so it’s unconsciously part of my aesthetic.”

Also talking about Haasan’s appearance, he said, “Our references were these old Tibetan monks who are supposed to be around 120-130 years old. Sir would always mention The Picture of Dorian Grayevery time we had a discussion.

Ashwin recognized the names of characters inspired by popular movies

Ashwin also acknowledged that two characters from Kalki 2898 AD were named after those of Star Wars And Harry Potter.

Harshith Reddy’s character is named Luke, a nod to Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.

Similarly, Vinay Kumar’s character was named Sirius, inspired by Sirius Black from Harry Potter.

Note, while Kalki was praised for its vision, but was criticized for being “derivative” and “copying” Hollywood blockbusters.

“Kalki 2898 AD” was a box office success

Kalki 2898 AD turned out to be a box office success, grossing over Rs 800 crore worldwide and Rs 500 crore domestically.

Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, it is said to be India’s most expensive film with a budget of ₹600 crore.

The film also features a slew of cameos from Dulquer Salmaan, SS Rajamouli, Ram Gopal Varma, Mrunal Thakur and Vijay Deverakonda.
