Silent Witness fans celebrate as Jack proposes to Nikki

What did you miss?

Series 27 of Silent Witness concluded its King’s Cross serial killer mystery with a surprise engagement tonight (February 13).

In recent weeks, coroner Dr Nikki Alexander (played by Emilia Fox) and her colleague Jack Hodgson (David Caves) have delighted fans by finally taking their flirtation to the next level, but just before the end credits rolled on BBC One, the pair’s romance crystallised beautifully with a marriage proposal.

What, how and why?

Nikki and Jack, or “Jakki” as Silent Witness fans have dubbed them, had just come home from the investigation when it became clear they couldn’t bear to spend time apart. Calling him from her backyard, she said, “Hey, I just got home. I was so happy to be home for like 10 seconds, maybe 20…”

“So what happened?” Jack asked, to which he replied, “So I wondered where you were.”

“Oh gosh,” he replied before ringing his doorbell and appearing in front of Nikki’s house.

“I’m here for the ad, the tenant,” he joked, as the couple playfully played a house tour.

After their games were over, Jack sat on Nikki’s couch, noting how they both work through evidence before making final decisions.

He then pulled out a folded evidence bag from his pocket which Nikki slowly opened to discover an engagement ring waiting for her inside.

“I can’t imagine a day without you, I can’t,” Jack said. “Will you marry me, Nikki?”

Smiling from ear to ear, she kissed him and replied enthusiastically, “Yes!”

How did viewers react to Silent Witness?

Following the magical scene, Silent Witness viewers rushed to social media site X to react.
