Leahurst Announces Free Family Fun Day, VetFest! – News

The University of Liverpool’s Leahurst Veterinary Campus opens its doors to all on Saturday 20th July 2024 for a day full of action and family fun.

VetFest: Open House will feature a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities, including:

  • Animal exhibitions – some of Leahurst’s farm animals and horses, interactive games and activities.
  • Merseyside Police horses, farriers, charity animal shows and more.
  • Dog competition – Participants are encouraged to bring their own dogs to compete in fun categories including “Wagging the Most Tail”!
  • Bouncy castle
  • Food and beverage vendors
  • Conferences by veterinary researchers and clinicians
  • Activities for adults, children and future veterinary students
  • Teddy Bear Clinic – Children can bring their own teddy bears to be repaired by a qualified surgeon
  • Tours of the Leahurst Equine and Small Animal Hospital facilities

VetFest will take place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 20th July at the Leahurst campus near Neston, Wirral. The full programme and event times will be available on the VetFest website ahead of the event.

Professor Paul Lunn, Dean of the School of Veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming visitors of all ages to what promises to be a very special open day in the run-up to the School of Veterinary Science’s 120th anniversary later this year. It will be a privilege to give our community a glimpse behind the scenes at Leahurst and the chance to meet some of our animals and learn about the exciting work we do every day. There will be something for everyone, whether you are a future vet, an animal lover or just curious!”
