Jamal Musiala sends message to Chelsea as transfer move finally confirmed

Jamal Musiala says he is delighted his former Chelsea academy team-mate Michael Olise has decided to sign for Bayern Munich, despite interest from the Blues.

The winger arrives from Crystal Palace for a reported £51million after his former club Chelsea pulled out of negotiations. The move was reportedly due to the impact the striker’s wage demands would have on the club’s balance sheet amid their fragile position under Premier League spending rules.

Frenchman Olise joined Chelsea’s youth academy from Arsenal in 2009 before moving to Manchester City in 2016 and then Reading a year later. During his time at Cobham, he played alongside Bayern and Germany star Musiala.

The midfielder spent eight years on Chelsea’s books before being snapped up by Bayern in 2019. He had previously been scouted by Southampton, who signed him from German fourth-tier club TSV Lehnerz.

Musiala says he is happy to be able to play alongside Olise again, this time on Bayern’s big stage. According to journalist Max Koch, the 21-year-old said: “We used to play together at the Chelsea academy, it was nice!

“He’s very talented, his technical qualities are excellent. He scored many goals at Palace so… I’m happy he’s joining Bayern.”
