Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan Announces Support from State Legislature

Lansing, Michigan — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan endorsed two candidates running for Michigan State Legislature in the 2024 election cycle: Donavan McKinney (HD-14) and Kara Hope (HD-74). Both state representatives are running as incumbent members of the Michigan Legislature. These candidates represent Michigan’s blue heartlands, including communities from Macomb and Wayne Country to parts of South Lansing and Delhi Township.

Shanay Watson-Whittaker, Michigan Director of Campaigns for Reproductive Freedom for All issued the following statement:

“We are thrilled to support Representatives Hope and McKinney in their state legislative campaigns for the 2024 election. Michigan has shown our nation how powerful state legislators are when they have a majority on reproductive freedom, and we intend to maintain those majorities. Both of these candidates are critical to protecting the rights and freedoms of Michiganders, and our members are ready and mobilized to support them and ensure they are elected this November.”

This announcement builds on Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan’s ongoing efforts to support and endorse candidates committed to protecting and advancing reproductive freedom. Reproductive Freedom for All is already on the ground in states across the country, including Michigan, as part of its largest-ever ballot initiative, working to ensure that reproductive freedom advocates are elected from state legislatures to the White House and that we protect and expand abortion rights and access through ballot measures. Our 2024 agenda provides voters with opportunities to make immediate, tangible changes to help build a future where everyone is free to make their own decisions about their bodies, lives, and families.

In November, following another resounding victory for abortion rights in elections across the country, Reproductive Freedom for All launched its Vote for Reproductive Freedom campaign. This digital and grassroots campaign will build on the momentum of major victories in Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky by encouraging voters to commit to voting for reproductive freedom advocates in 2024 as a first step in mobilizing the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion.
