Dog Expecting To Play Ends Up Getting Groomed And Shutting Up Owner

A video of a dog giving his owner the “silent treatment” after a grooming session at a dog daycare has gone viral on TikTok.

The video, shared by user @allygarbs, has garnered 575,000 views since it was posted on June 14.

A message overlaid on the video reads: “POV (point of view): When mom drops you off at doggy daycare where you think you’re going to play with your friend Moose, but you end up getting your navy hair cut by the daycare groomer.” The video captures the dog’s seemingly disgruntled reaction, as he is shown sitting in a car.

In the clip, a voice can be heard asking the dog, “Are you mad at me because of your haircut? Aren’t you talking to me?” The puppy turns his head toward the window at the end of the clip.

The caption accompanying the post reads: “Silent treatment all the way home.”

Pet grooming is a common practice among dog owners in the United States, with many opting for professional services to keep their pets clean and well-groomed. While professional grooming is essential to a pet’s health and hygiene, it’s clear that some, like the dog in the viral video, don’t always appreciate it.

According to a 2023-2024 survey by the American Pet Products Association (APPA), 66% of American households own a pet, representing 86.9 million households, of which 65.1 million have a canine companion.

U.S. pet industry sales are expected to reach $150.6 billion by 2024, including $12.9 billion in services such as grooming, training, boarding, insurance, and pet sitting/walking, among others, outside of veterinary care.

‘The treason’

TikTok users were amused by the dog’s disapproval of the unexpected grooming session.

MiMiToo said: “I have never seen a more definitive ‘no, I’m not talking to you’.”

Shumeka wrote: “He’s really mad at you, mom.” User heartwinks said: “Ohhhh, the betrayal.”

Brittney Dey noted: “The way he shakes his head shows he’s not talking to you at all! Funny, dogs have the biggest personalities!”

Quepsi#7 wrote: “Some of these dogs can really have an attitude.” User jetman2 noted: “I bet his friends made fun of him for that kind of reaction!”

Newsweek reached out to the original video’s author for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
