CINCINNATI, Ohio (WCMH) — People looking to try popular new weight-loss medications can now find out if they qualify for a prescription simply by visiting a clinic located at a local Kroger or without even leaving their home.

Kroger Health’s Little Clinic announced that its weight management program will be updated to include “comprehensive options” such as GLP-1 drug therapies, the company said in a news release. Some well-known GLP-1s include drugs such as Wegovy, Zepbound and others.

“This renewed weight management program will provide resources for patients struggling with their weight and weight-related health issues to improve their overall well-being,” said Meggen Brown, Kroger Health’s chief nursing officer.

In-person and telemedicine consultations are available, starting at $99 per session. The clinic accepts insurance to cover the cost of treatment.

“Patients can meet with our team in their local store or virtually from the comfort of their own home,” Brown said. “This is another way we are making health care convenient, accessible and affordable for families.”

The healthcare company also highlighted other resources offered in its new approach to help customers achieve their goals:

• Resources on fresh and healthy foods
• Ongoing medical visits with a certified clinical provider
• Routine training
• Community support information
• Where applicable, inclusion of FDA-approved and prescribed medical treatments, including GLP-1

Kroger Health announced it is emphasizing its “Food as Medicine” philosophy with a program redesign. Grocery items that can help prevent disease and maintain a healthy weight are highlighted in the approach.

“Each treatment plan is personalized by licensed healthcare providers based on the patient’s medical history as well as their overall health and wellness goals,” said Emily Matthews, regional clinical manager for Kroger’s Columbus division’s Little Clinic. “We want to help our patients get and stay healthy.”

The program is available at The Little Clinic in Ohio and other clinical states including Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia.
