The 85th annual Queen’s Cup Trophy took place this past weekend on Lake Michigan. This night race on Lake Michigan runs from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to South Haven, Michigan. Both the South Shore Yacht Club in Milwaukee and the South Haven Yacht Club provided a great experience for pre and post race festivities. The race is popular with J/Teams on Lake Michigan. Here is the breakdown by division.

Class J/111

Blane Shea’s STRIKING BACK won by just 5 minutes. George Golder’s TERRIER finished second, followed by Colin & Mark Caliban’s NO QUARTER in third. The top 5 was completed by Brad & Ian Faber’s UTAH and Jeff Schaeffer’s SHMOKIN JOE in fourth and fifth respectively.

PHRF Division 1

Nine boats competed in this category of big gold-plated speedsters. Bill Schanen’s J/145 MAIN STREET finished in fifth place.

PHRF Division 2

The winner of this eight-boat division is Doug Evans’ J/122 ELBOW ROOM. It seems that this team, former winners of the Chicago Mackinac Race, have not lost their touch after “upgrading” to the much larger J/122!

Double division

This shorthanded division featured ten teams of all levels and sizes! The silver medal went to Ron Otto’s J/110 TAKEDOWN 2. Right behind them, on correction, was Justin Acker’s J/88 MCQUEEN.
