People Really Don’t Like Martha Stewart’s Living Room Renovation | Marie Claire

Martha Stewart’s new living room renovation is facing heavy criticism from the 82-year-old’s two million Instagram followers.

Taking to Instagram this week to share a series of images of the newly decorated living room of her Maine home, Stewart’s followers proved that even the housewife icon herself isn’t immune to harsh social media criticism.

“Big day of furniture rearranging in the three main lounges of Skylands,” Stewart wrote on the platform.

“We replaced the gray-blue upholstery with a creamy pale butter yellow (all the yellow is from Lily Pond Lane that I sold two years ago!). The library is much cozier now and the faux bois table is now the card table. I love the rustic yet elegant charm of this lovely 1925 home.”

Her followers were quick to share their thoughts, with many feeling there was too much furniture and not enough color.

“At first I thought it was a furniture store,” one wrote.

“Yuck. Looks like the living room of a 1987 Marriott suite,” another commented.

However, Stewart was undeterred by the backlash and responded to her critics with a follow-up post.

“I rarely read every comment that comes in after I post, but since I was so happy with the transformation of my Maine living room, I went through many of the comments and was surprised at the harsh judgment displayed by so many!!!” Stewart wrote.

“My assistants from Maine and I spent three hours moving the old furniture and installing the new ones. We were thrilled that the pieces actually fit the room and were proportionate to the large size of the space.

“This was not a professional “decorator” installation. This was an attempt at a quick and effective makeover. Transforming a house into a home or a room into a beautiful living space takes well over three hours. Of course, there will be color, plants, mirrors, a new rug or two, and other art and objects. Stay tuned!!!! And by the way, the birds are chromolithographs by Carroll Tyson, known as the “6Audubon of Maine” – so beautiful!”

The comments were much more encouraging on his second post, with many people telling Stewart not to worry about the negative comments.

“After decades of inspiring millions of people in home decor, cooking, and entertaining, you owe nothing to negative commenters! If you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. Keep being the queen you are!” wrote one Instagram user.

Kris Jenner also shared her thoughts on the second post, commenting, “GORGEOUS!!!!!!”
