One of two Burmese nationals who escaped from prison has been arrested

Two prisoners, both Burmese nationals, escaped from Serchip district jail in Mizoram on Saturday evening.

One of the two Myanmar nationals who escaped from Serchhip district jail in Mizoram on Saturday was captured by the Mizoram police on Sunday evening.

According to prison department officials, Lalnunnema (31), a resident of Thantlang, Myanmar, was captured near Vanchengte village after he met with an accident near a cliff and sustained minor injuries.

Two prisoners, both Myanmar nationals, escaped from Serchip district prison on Saturday night, raising questions about security measures at the prison.

The two individuals were identified as Lalchhanhima, 44, and Lalnunnema, 31, and were arrested on June 10, 2024. A large number of AK-47 rifles were also seized from them.

Prison authorities informed the two men that they were playing volleyball in the afternoon. After finishing, they went to the reserve to return their sports gear. But after returning their gear, they did not report to their cells. Prison authorities realized that they had sneaked in through the main entrance of the prison.
