Capito would consider WRC leadership role if asked – DirtFish

“If people think it’s worth it, I would never say never. But they know that if someone asks me, my ideas are sometimes radical… But if you don’t have radical ideas, you don’t get change.”

During his time at the helm of Ford’s involvement in rallying and during that extraordinary period at Volkswagen when the German manufacturer dominated all championship titles for four years, Capito recognised the weaknesses of the WRC.

He proposed a radical change to give more meaning to the final day of world rallies and, when he could not reach agreement with the promoter in an ongoing debate, he asked his drivers not to speak to camera crews at the end of the stages.

Asked about the controversial new rules for 2024 regarding the new WRC points and scoring structure, Capito added: “At least something is happening. The technical regulations have changed a lot (since 2016) and quite dramatically too. But on the sporting side, it was time (for a change).”
