Clinton County Historical Association Announces July and August EventsPlattsburgh, New York – The Clinton County Historical Association invites you to explore our region’s rich history through a series of exciting events this summer. From lighthouses to railroads, blueberry companies to cemetery tours, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store:


July 14 – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Visit Bluff Point Lighthouse on Valcour Island. 3 floors of exhibits on the history of the island. Your own transportation is required.


July 19 – Plattsburgh Senior Center, 5139 North Catherine Street, Plattsburgh. Clinton County Railroad History – Part 1. Inspired by CCHA photo albums of early trains in the area and the recently acquired collection of railroad enthusiast Lawrence Duffina, transportation historian Dick Soper will share the story of railroad development that opened Clinton County to new markets and, ultimately, new tourism and a past we now take for granted. This is the first in a multi-part series that will span the period from 1833 to the present and will include photographs, newspaper articles and information from our extensive collection of railroad books recently added to our research library.


July 21 – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Visit Bluff Point Lighthouse on Valcour Island. 3 floors of exhibits on the history of the island. Your own transportation is required.


July 25 – 6:30 p.m., Clinton County Historical Association, 98 Ohio Avenue, Plattsburgh. Blueberry trade booms on Altona’s flat rock with Steve Frederick sharing the legacy of the local Flat Rock picking community that supplied blueberries throughout the East Coast and Canada.


July 28 – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Visit Bluff Point Lighthouse on Valcour Island. 3 floors of exhibits on the history of the island. Your own transportation is required.


August 4 – Sunday on the islandVisit Bluff Point Lighthouse and explore the trails of Valcour Island. Transportation to the island begins at 9:20am. $30 per person. Call 518-561-0340 to reserve your spot.


August 10, 9:30 a.m. Riverside Cemetery Walking Tour. Visit the graves of Plattsburgh pioneers and notables with narration by Anne Bailey, Helen Nerska, Kit Booth and Jackie Madison.
