The Chargers may want to consider a veteran CB to bolster their defensive secondary

As the Los Angeles Chargers enter the 2024 season, they will be looking to return to the playoffs. After a disappointing 2023 season, the Bolts brought in a new head coach in Jim Harbaugh, giving this team a new momentum toward contention.

While it won’t happen overnight, Harbaugh brings credibility to the Chargers organization and the roster has already improved. However, the Bolts may be lacking talent in one specific area as we get closer to the start of the season.

Travis Wakeman of Sporting News believes Los Angeles could still be looking to make a move to bolster its defense. He mentioned veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore as an interesting option for the Bolts.

“Stephon Gilmore is 33 and has played for a different team each of the last three seasons, most recently with the Dallas Cowboys. But the former first-round pick has had a tremendous career, including five Pro Bowl selections, two first-team All-Pro selections and the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2019. There’s no doubt Gilmore’s best days are behind him and he’s likely lost a step. But he’s still tough in coverage and can provide the kind of experience a young defense is looking for.”

Adding a player like Gilmore could be beneficial for the Bolts, allowing them to work with more players. Teams can never have enough cornerbacks during the long season, so adding more depth could be beneficial for the Chargers.

With training camp fast approaching, Gilmore remains unsigned. He could have a big impact on this team, also bringing more experience.
