SAMHSA Announces .5 Million in Funding to Improve Women’s Behavioral Health

On June 8, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration announced $27.5 million in funding to improve women’s behavioral health. According to the press release, the funds will expand access to services and improve providers’ ability to identify and treat mental health conditions, substance abuse, and gender-based violence. SAMHSA announced $15 million in funding for the Community-Based Maternal Behavioral Health Services Program, which improves access to timely, culturally relevant, and evidence-based maternal mental health and substance use treatment, and $12.5 million for the Women’s Behavioral Health Technical Assistance Center, which strengthens the capacity of women’s behavioral health providers, general health care providers, and others involved in women’s holistic care to meet the needs of people with or at risk for mental health and substance use disorders.
