A man arrested in possession of cocaine has been ordered to participate in a drug treatment program.

Andrew Hayward, 43, admitted having the substance and drug paraphernalia when he appeared at magistrates court last week.

The court heard that police found a metal casing during a search in Hayward, Pembroke, on Crow Lane, on March 21 last year.

Officers seized the item and found a small amount of cocaine when they searched Hayward again at the Hamilton police station.

Senior Magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered Hayward to undergo drug treatment from July 9 and released him on $2,000 bail.

Hayward was also ordered to adhere to a daily curfew.
