Supino Pizzeria’s Oriental Market Dining Room to Reopen; New Hours Set for Both Locations

Little by little, the Eastern Market restaurant of the popular Supino pizzeria has returned to 100% operation after a fire in the upstairs apartments in April 2023.

Owner Dave Mancini told The Detroit News that the Russell Street restaurant will fully reopen for dine-in service Tuesday. The pizzeria opened for takeout only in April, a year after the fire, but was still unable to welcome customers back into the dining room for lunch and dinner.

“We’re getting right into it, getting back to full bar, liquor and wine. Our liquor license has been reinstated, the kitchen has been spruced up,” Mancini said, adding that while there have been many setbacks in recent months, he’s grateful for the support of his landlord FIRM Real Estate, interior design firm Midwest Common and Donut Shop, who helped him update the cabinets and benches.

“We kept the original bar, just built some decorative elements around it and added shelves and new pews,” he said, adding that the church’s old pews were removed, having not really survived the upstairs fire and subsequent water damage.

When the Eastern Market Supino, which opened in 2008, was forced to close after the April 2023 fire, Mancini extended the hours of his second location in New Center. Now that both are back up and running, he’s adjusted the hours so that there’s at least one Supino open every day, but neither is open every day, giving staff a break.

The new hours for Supino Eastern Market, 2457 Russell, are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The New Center, located at 6519 Woodward, is now open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Saturday. Visit supinopizzeria.com.
