Shelby Help Line Ministries Launches Summer Lunch Program, Ready for Pie Auction

SHELBY — As summer has arrived, several programs are in full swing at Shelby Help Line Ministries.

By Christmas, the agency will be very busy. Summer lunches have already started, with a record number of 145 children served.

“We hope that number continues to grow,” said Jolene M. Arms of Shelby Help Line Ministries. “For every week of service, our chefs receive a check for $1,000 for food and packaging supplies.”

“We are so grateful to the churches for continuing to provide this ministry week after week and for the many helping hands that reach out to them.”

Bike Days are fast approaching and the organization is starting to prepare for its annual homemade pie auction.

“It’s crazy to think that this will be our 20th year of collecting and selling pies,” Arms said. “We thank all the churches, organizations and individuals who take the time to make some of the most wonderful pies for our auction.”

“I am always amazed by the support we receive from our generous donors. The pie auction is probably one of my favorite events.”

If you would like to bake a pie or two, or even come after the parade to participate in the auction, the agency would appreciate your support. This is currently the only fundraiser for the ministry.

“Believe it or not, we’ve already started preparing for back to school,” Arms said. “I know what you’re thinking, school’s only been out for a few weeks and we’re already talking about going back to school. It’s crazy!”

“We will be accepting applications for children from July 1st to July 31st.”

Any child in Shelby or Tiro is invited to receive supplies, a backpack and a shoe voucher. Last year, Shelby Help Line Ministries helped 211 children.

If you would like to donate supplies, please contact our office. All items must be new.

“We certainly couldn’t support our community without your contributions,” Arms said.

Donations can be made online through the website, the Venmo app, or by cash or check.

“Thank you for your continued generosity,” Arms said. “With your partnership, we hope to continue to do so.”

Shelby Help Line Ministries has been faithfully serving the community for over 45 years.
