Paul Mescal is ready for battle. Get ready

Get ready for a return to ancient Rome as Ridley Scott brings us the long-awaited Gladiator IIwith a new cast and script. Following his recent works Napoleon, The Last DuelAnd Gucci HouseRidley Scott’s latest epic is set to hit the big screen later this year. While the trailer, which received much acclaim at CinemaCon earlier in 2024, has yet to be released to the public, the first official poster has been revealed, featuring new protagonist Paul Mescal in the battle arena. Are you ready for battle?

The sequel takes place several decades after the original film and focuses on the character Lucius Verus, played by Paul Mescal and grandson of the former emperor Marcus Aurelius. Lucius, now enslaved, seeks to emulate Maximus and become famous as a gladiator. He will face off in the arena against Marcus Acacius, Pedro Pascal’s character. The cast also includes Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Derek Jacobi, Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger.

I reported it: Gladiator II The film explores the aftermath of Commodus’ reign and follows Lucius on his odyssey into the brutal world of gladiatorial combat, driven by themes of vengeance, honor and redemption. The film also stars returning cast members Connie Nielsen and Djimon Hounsou, as well as newcomers Barry Keoghan and Denzel Washington.

Gladiator II will be released in UK cinemas on 15 November 2024, followed by its worldwide release on 22 November 2024.
