Manchester United have reportedly offered Harry Maguire to La Liga giants Barcelona as part of the club’s ongoing squad overhaul.

United are looking for defensive reinforcements, with Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite the main targets.

Negotiations between Manchester United and Bayern over De Ligt are continuing in an attempt to reach an agreement on a transfer fee. The Red Devils have had their first offer for Branthwaite rejected and it remains to be seen whether a second improved offer will be tabled.

Adding players to the backline would almost certainly mean the end of the respective tenures of stars like Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person indicated that United were open to selling Maguire and Lindelof should suitable offers arrive for them.

Lindelof has been linked with Turkish giants Fenerbahce while Maguire is said to be on the radar of teams including AC Milan and West Ham.

A new report now claims that United have ‘offered’ Barcelona the chance to sign Maguire this summer.

The former club captain is no longer “untouchable” and could be sacked as part of Ten Hag’s “historic squad cleanse”. The Dutch coach recently extended his contract with United until June 2026.

It seems that the twenty-time English champion “is hoping to get rid of his (Maguire’s) high salary this year, and has already started offering his services to different teams”. The Blaugrana are one of those teams.

United are hoping that “Joan Laporta and Deco will take advantage of the fact that they will only ask for around €20m for the experienced 31-year-old centre-back.”

However, according to the report, Barca manager Hansi Flick issued an “immediate response” and “categorically rejected the possibility of Maguire landing at the Camp Nou”.

In the 2023/24 season, Maguire made 31 appearances in all competitions. During that time, the England international helped United keep six clean sheets. He scored as many goals in the process.
