Matthew McConaughey was stung in the face by a bee and shared a shocking photo of the aftermath on Instagram. The 54-year-old True Detective star posted a picture showing his right eye completely swollen shut due to the violent reaction, but he managed to keep his sense of humor intact, captioning the post: “Bee swell.”

Details about the location and circumstances of the sting remain a mystery, but the Interstellar actor has remained remarkably unfazed by the painful injury, as he told fans on social media. McConaughey, who won an Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, is currently wrapping up his new film, the crime thriller The Rivals of Amziah King.

While the plot remains under wraps, set photos have shown Matthew in character with several boxes of honey, hinting at a possible connection to his recent encounter with a bee.

Stings near the eye can be particularly dangerous, potentially leading to serious problems like optic neuritis and even glaucoma, but so far, thankfully, Matthew appears to have escaped any serious injury despite his worrying appearance.

That didn’t stop fans from giving their opinions, including wishing the star well as she recovers from her injury. Among the dozens of comments left on her post, one fan hilariously referenced Matthew’s famous line from the 1993 comedy Dazed and Confused, “You just gotta keep livin’, man. LIVIN,” commenting, “Gotta keep on LIVIN.”

Others took to the comments to lend a more sympathetic ear to the star, with one fan kindly commenting: “Get well soon Mr McConaughey. I hope you have an ice pack on your eye. The Benadryl and hydrocortisone cream will have you feeling better in no time. Wear your best sunglasses and know that your fans love you.”

Another fan exclaimed: “You know, even with those messy eyes, you still look so beautiful.” Even celebrities like legendary model Cindy Crawford couldn’t help but comment, with the ’90s icon writing: “Ouch!”
