Recently, BLACKPINK’s Jennie found herself at the center of controversy after she was caught on camera smoking an e-cigarette indoors while preparing for Capri, an incident that was inadvertently included in her vlog. This sparked an immediate public outcry, especially since smoking indoors is banned in many countries. To compound the issue, someone reported Jennie to authorities in Italy, which could potentially expose her to legal consequences.

In response to the outcry, an anonymous staff member present in the waiting room of Jacquemus’ show, where the incident occurred, came forward to clarify the situation, according to Sports Chosun’s report. They revealed, “The location in the video was the waiting room of Jacquemus’ show, and it was not a no-smoking area inside. After asking if she could smoke, she immediately opened the window next to her and smoked like that.”

The employee then explained that Jennie’s use of the bubble pen coincided with a makeup artist searching for lip product, creating an unfortunate timing issue. “While the employee was searching for the lip product, Jennie took a puff from a bubble pen sold at a convenience store. It turned out that the timing of her blowing the smoke matched. She continued to apologize even after the show was over, and the employees involved also said it was okay since they were also smokers,” the anonymous employee said.

They continued: “While it is a problem that the smoke brushed the top of the staff’s head, I think it is not fair that her past actions are mentioned together in the context of an attitude controversy (with this issue). As an IRL friend, I am leaving a comment because I am upset that it is misunderstood in this way.” Despite all the possible authorizations on site, smoking indoors in public places has been illegal in Italy since 2005, extended to e-cigarettes from 2014.
