Budweiser Clydesdales Stop in Ammon – LocalNews8.com

AMMON, Idaho (KIFI) – The Budweiser Clydesdales were in town Wednesday. You may have seen them pulling the red Budweiser wagon in front of the Ammon Broulim’s.

These horses stand about 6 feet tall and can weigh up to 2,000 pounds. Their horseshoes alone weigh about 5 pounds. Clydesdales have been the Budweiser brand since the 1930s and first appeared at the Super Bowl in 1975.

The handlers led the group of 10 horses in a loop around the parking lot for 2 hours. The original tour was supposed to last 4 hours but was shortened due to the extreme heat. In today’s heat, the horses drank 30 gallons of water to stay hydrated.

Clydesdale trainer Josie Points told us it took 5 hours to prepare the horses before they were shown on tour, but it was worth it after seeing the children’s reactions.

“My favorite thing is the little kids,” Points said. “They’re just amazed by the size of the horses and they’re so gentle. And especially when you have a horse and they can pet them, the horse puts its head down and lets them pet it. It’s just awesome.”

Dalmatian dogs have also been part of the Budweiser brand since the 1950s.

They were used as protection during beer deliveries.
