LA Chargers and Samsung Open Bolt July 13-14

As the first NFL team training facility and headquarters built in Los Angeles, the Bolt’s extraordinary design, technological prowess, prime location and dynamic event space position the building at the intersection of entertainment and professional sports.

The Los Angeles Chargers announce the grand opening of “The Bolt,” the team’s new state-of-the-art training facility and headquarters. Located on One Chargers Way, the El Segundo-based facility offers sweeping views of the Los Angeles Basin—including downtown, Griffith Observatory and the iconic Hollywood Sign—and is less than four miles from LAX, popular South Bay beaches and SoFi Stadium.

At 150,000 square feet, the Bolt features an ecosystem of over 250 Samsung LED displays spread across three carefully planned levels. The Bolt is situated on 14 acres, including three all-natural grass training fields. The ground floor features a large locker room, equipment room, training and medical area, weight room, hydrotherapy room, recovery room, sauna, steam room, hairdressing area, multiple player lounges and direct access to the training fields, rehabilitation pool and outdoor lounge with BBQ, fire pit and outdoor sun-soaked televisions.

Samsung technology on the ground floor includes:

  • Samsung 4K smart display in sizes ranging from 43 to 85 inches to display nutrition, strength and performance information.
  • The Samsung XRB outdoor LED ribbon displays on the facility’s east façade mimic the ribbon displays surrounding the Chargers’ home field at SoFi Stadium.
  • Samsung’s 4K QLED Outdoor TV, The Terrace, in the outdoor living room features advanced glare resistance so gamers can watch content in all weather conditions.

The second floor houses an oversized team dining room and kitchen—led by Wolfgang Puck Catering—with a Chargers helmet-inspired tiled pizza oven, rotisserie buffet, smoothie and coffee bars, pasta station, grill station, freestanding salad bar and a daily Global catering station. Also home to the coaching staff and football operations offices, the floor includes all team meeting rooms (including an outdoor turf walk-through space on the second-level balcony) as well as a two-story team meeting room. Samsung LCD signage in executive offices, conference rooms and huddle spaces promote team collaboration.

The top floor houses a soon-to-be-completed private members’ club with a panoramic balcony with outdoor views, a lounge, a dining room and a private dining room. The third level also serves as the hub for all executive and business staff offices, conference rooms and content creation centers.

“I haven’t been this excited in a long time,” said Chargers majority owner and chairman Dean Spanos. “I see it in the community, I see it within the organization — from our staff to our players to our coaches, it’s electrifying. Having Jim Harbaugh here has brought a new awareness of our team, how important it is to us and to the community. And now you have this new facility that everyone has been talking about for over two years now. Our fans are excited. You see it everywhere you go. I hear they can’t wait to come to camp. They can’t wait to see ‘The Bolt.’ It’s been a long time and a long time coming, and I just feel fortunate that our staff, our players and our fans will be able to enjoy it for years to come.”

With innovation at the forefront, The Bolt creatively showcases cutting-edge technology at every level. The property’s main reception area presents guests with a stunning three-story Samsung ISC indoor LED display at the entrance while the media center, adjacent to the exhibit staircase, uses a Samsung LCD video wall as a backdrop for press conferences. Perhaps equally impressive but not seen, The Bolt also features Verizon’s cloud-based mobility, security, 5G edge and 5G private network solutions to prioritize connectivity built for a competitive culture.

“With the opening of The Bolt, the Chargers are further cementing their reputation as the most technologically advanced team in professional football,” said David Phelps, head of the Display Division at Samsung Electronics America. “This impressive, sprawling facility will be a hub not only for the team as it prepares for a winning season, but also for igniting the excitement of Chargers fans. From the eye-catching indoor LED display at the entrance to the array of screens on every level, every fan who enters The Bolt will feel inspired and more connected to the team than ever before.”

Another key element of the building unveiled earlier this week, the Chargers Walk of Fame graces the Bolt’s entrance. Honoring each Chargers Hall of Fame member with its own terrazzo tile and brass inlays, the walkway was commissioned by the Chargers and executed by the same company that installs the signs on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“It’s a small way of saying thank you to the great players who have played for our team over the last 60 years,” Spanos said. “It’s the first thing you see when you walk into this building that, to me, really shows that this is the foundation of our team.”
