Nancy Pelosi is reportedly working quietly to push Joe Biden out of the 2024 presidential race amid concerns over his ability to win a second term.

The former House speaker last spoke publicly about Biden on Wednesday, where she stopped short of explicitly telling the president Joe Biden to stay in the presidential race.

However, Pelosi has reportedly been working the halls of Congress, talking to as many powerful Democrats as possible to try to come up with a plan to get Biden to reconsider.

She reportedly polled everyone from Democrats in key districts who fear Biden will throw their elections to longtime veterans in deeply blue parts of the country.

One Democratic lawmaker described her anonymously as “very concerned” about Biden and did not necessarily specify that “we are sticking with (Biden).”

Another said Pelosi’s message was: “The stakes are so high. We can’t afford to do anything but take our chance to win.”

She is reportedly concerned that the Biden campaign’s response to the disastrous Atlanta debate that sparked this controversy two weeks ago was not “an honest accounting” or “an objective analysis.”

Another anonymous Democrat said: “It’s very clear that she doesn’t think this is a done deal and that Joe Biden’s statement – ‘I’m running, shut up’ – meant, ‘No, we’re still talking about this.’”

Pelosi is rumored to represent members who believe Biden’s continued race is being “forced.”

“The Biden team has made clear what their strategy is: ignore the problem, drag it out and force the rest of us to live with it,” said Adam Smith of Washington, who called on Biden to step down.

A Pelosi spokesperson told The Hill a message similar to the one she delivered on MSNBC on Wednesday.

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi fully supports President Biden’s decision, whatever it may be. We need to focus on why this race matters so much: Donald Trump would be a disaster for our country and our democracy,” Krager said.

Asked about Biden’s endorsement on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, the former House speaker said: “It’s up to the president to decide whether he’s going to run. We all encourage him to make that decision because time is running out.”

“Whatever he decides, we will follow.”

Biden wrote in a letter to Democrats on the Hill on Tuesday: “I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, seeing it through to the end, and defeating Donald Trump.”

Nancy Pelosi, 84, and Joe Biden, 81, have been crossing paths in Washington for decades. Pelosi is one of their biggest defenders on Capitol Hill.

She said Democrats should “let him handle the NATO conference” taking place in Washington DC this week and “wait” to make a public judgment “until we see how it goes this week.”

Nancy Pelosi remained silent as she emerged from a meeting of all House Democrats on Tuesday, where they discussed the future of their presumptive presidential nominee.

Asked about Pelosi’s comments, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., told reporters he would not comment until he speaks with her.

Democratic House Leader Katherine Clark said of the remarks: “Our view has not changed. President Biden is the nominee. There is no difference between our caucus and the work we have done with this administration and the work we will do going forward. As always, that decision is up to the president.”

So far, at least seven House Democrats have formally called on Biden to step down. Others have flirted with the idea or expressed similar sentiment behind closed doors.

Senator Michael Bennet, Democrat of Colorado, said he believes Biden will cause Democrats to lose the election on Tuesday.

“I think Donald Trump is on track to win this election and perhaps win it handily and take the Senate and the House of Representatives with him,” Bennet said.

“I think we could lose everything,” he told CNN.
