Charles Barkley Reflects on His Surprise Decision to Retire

Charles Barkley has further explained his decision to retire from television at the end of the 2024-25 season, explaining that he wants to remain loyal to TNT And Discovery of Warner Bros.

“I wouldn’t feel comfortable working for any other network,” Barkley said on Radio-Canada. “I’ve been with Turner for 25 years and I love everyone at Turner. But at this age, to start over, I don’t know if I want to.”

The NBA finalized media rights deals with ESPN, NBCUniversal and Amazon on Wednesday, and some began to speculate that Barkley could be part of a bidding war between the three companies.

But money is not something that will attract Chuck.

“If I don’t have enough money right now, I’m the biggest idiot, the craziest person in the world,” Barkley said. “And seriously, if I don’t have enough money right now, I’ve been so lucky and blessed. I played in the NBA for 15 years. I’ve been on television for 24 years. If I don’t have enough money right now, I’m the biggest loser in the world.”

Undoubtedly, the troubled future of TNT was part of Barkley’s decision.

“I feel really bad for everyone at TNT “Everyone I’ve worked with over the last 24 years is like family to me,” Barkley said. “Honestly, in my heart, I think we lost the package. That’s my honest opinion. But I really hope we get some last-minute relief for the Turner people.”

TNT still has the ability to match contracts, The Athletic reported.

“The CEO of TNT Sports head quarter, Discovery of Warner Bros.NBA’s David Zaslav has publicly stated that he may attempt to use the current contract language to remain involved in the NBA. Athleticism Andrew Marchand reported.
