In 2014, a major scandal rocked the NBA when a secret recording of Donald Sterling, then owner of the LA Clippers from 1981 to 2014, was revealed by a woman with whom he was romantically involved.

The scandal grew when it became clear that Sterling had made racist remarks, including banning his girlfriend from inviting black people to Clippers games. The incident resulted in Sterling being banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million.

Baron Davis Reveals Shocking Encounters With Donald Sterling on The Draymond Green Show

Recently, former NBA player and two-time All-Star Baron Davis opened up about his encounters with Sterling on the Draymond Green Show. His experiences gave the audience a better understanding of Sterling’s behavior behind the scenes.

“The Clippers, man,” Davis says, “are like a horrible TV soap opera that takes place in a prison. Imagine sitting in an art class, stripped of all your paints and tools and brushes until you’re about to paint, and they keep bumping your elbows while you’re doing it.”

At the invitation of four-time NBA champion Draymond Green, who hosts the show, Davis vividly recalls a disturbing incident involving Sterling. “After a game he won, he came into the locker room, followed by a group of older white women,” Davis described. “Sterling asked us to wait for them while we were in the shower, pointing specifically at me.”

Davis also recalls a woman hanging around his locker and peppering him with questions. Davis expressed his discomfort by saying, “And this woman was sitting there hanging out by my locker, but she was just like, where are you from? Oh, you went over there, so you expect me to get up? You know what I mean? That’s what it was. It was disgusting, man. It was like, I could have sued her for sexual harassment.”

The Donald Sterling scandal marked a pivotal moment in the fledgling NBA commissioner Adam Silver’s tenure. It prompted the LA Clippers to stage a protest against Sterling before a playoff game, symbolically eliminating the team’s warm-ups on center court.

Sterling’s controversial exit with lifetime ban

Just days after Sterling’s racist comments were leaked by TMZ, NBA GM Silver fined Sterling $2.5 million and suspended him for life from the NBA. Still, the road to Sterling selling the LA Clippers was long and arduous.

NBA owners, surpassing the necessary 75% majority vote, forced Sterling to relinquish his ownership.

In 2017, Sterling turned the Clippers over to billionaire Steve Ballmer and later acknowledged in an interview with NBC News that he was happy with the scandal and negative publicity.
