Sena (UBT) candidate moves high commission, demands annulment of BJP MLA Narayan Rane’s election

Mumbai, Jul 13 (UNI) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former MLA from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency in Maharashtra, Vinayak Raut, has filed an election petition in the Bombay High Court, seeking annulment of the victory of BJP’s Narayan Rane from the said constituency in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Raut, in a plea filed on Friday, claimed that Rane had won the Lok Sabha elections this year through “fraudulent means” and demanded that Rane’s electoral victory in the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg seat be nullified and he be barred from contesting elections and voting for the next five years.

In his plea, the Sena (UBT) leader alleged that voters were threatened and money was distributed and despite all these allegations being brought to the notice of the Election Commission, no action was taken and hence he approached the court.

Rane, who is also a former Union minister, won by a margin of 47,858 votes against Raut.
