Metrolink faces major delays as services are cancelled due to overhead line failure

Metrolink passengers face another day of major disruption following damage to an overhead line.

There are currently no trams between Altrincham and the city centre and Eccles and the city centre due to the line problems that occurred last night. Several other lines are also affected.

A statement on the Metrolink website said disruptions were expected “until further notice”. It added: “Engineers remain on site and hope to resume service as soon as possible.

“We will continue to keep our customers informed. Please check this page regularly for further information.”

The damage is believed to have occurred between Trafford Bar and Old Trafford stations. The Ashton and Bury tram lines only run as far as Piccadilly, while the East Didsbury and Manchester Airports tram lines will run as far as Firswood.

Oldham-Rochdale trams will run from Oldham Mumps to Exchange Square, while Trafford Park services will stop at Wharfside.

Even before the damage to the line last night, no trams were running between Rochdale town centre and Oldham Mumps due to a landslide.
