‘Nothing lasts forever’: Life after Klay Thompson will be toughest for three people in Warriors locker room, Mike Dunleavy says

With Klay Thompson ending his 13-year run with the Warriors to join the Mavs, his former team will now be heading in a different direction. But it won’t be easy to fill that void, as Klay was a Bay Area legend, and finding a replacement is a tall order. However, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. is optimistic about the franchise’s future without a replacement. During the ongoing Summer League broadcast of the Warriors vs. Suns game, Dunleavy discussed the sharpshooter’s departure and how the team plans to adjust. “That’s the way things evolve, with organizations, with teams, and as I said the other day, nothing lasts forever. And here we are, moving toward something different. I think that’s going to be a good thing.”

But more importantly, the CEO believes that not having China Klay In the locker room, there will be a major change for those who have been the pillars of this franchise with Thompson, “I think it’ll be different once camp starts and we start practicing, especially for Draymond, Steph and Steve, it’ll be a little bit of a shock.”

With Thompson finding a new home in Dallas and the Warriors making several moves in free agency so far, Dunleavy is confident things will eventually work out, “But you know what, I think Klay’s in a great situation and we’re going to move forward and I think we’re going to be fine.” Although he will be sorely missed by Dub Nation, GSW has added a sniper to take his place.

Buddy Hield, who has a career 40% shooting from long range, will now prepare to suit up for the Bay Area. Additionally, they also added Kyle Anderson and De’Anthony Melton to the team, hoping they can help them get back to greatness.

Warriors’ core trio reflects on Klay Thompson’s departure

While the Warriors are now focused on building without Klay, the trio of Steph, Draymond and Kerr are still processing it all. Steph’s mind is on his first trip to the Olympics that begins in a few days, but he shared in an interview how he handled Klay’s move to Dallas. “Not having Klay anymore, man, I still haven’t really realized. It’s just because you’ve been doing it for 13 years together.”

Meanwhile, Draymond also revealed on his podcast that he might have even shed a tear or two when he finally realized that Klay would no longer be his teammate. Especially when the sharpshooter shared an emotional message on Instagram to bid farewell to the place he called home for thirteen years, Dray was sucked into a nostalgia trip because of it, “Seeing that was like being a man! It takes you back.”

However, DG was happy for his friend. “I’m happy for Klay. I think last year was very trying for him.”

Even Steve Kerr shared a similar sentiment and admitted that leaving the Golden State Warriors was probably the right decision. “Ultimately, he really needed this career change and I think it’s going to do him some good.”

Even though we won’t see these four legends on the same team again, they will always remain connected after what they built together in Golden State. And let’s hope they can continue to build on their legacy in this new chapter as well.
