Team Fortress 2 Legend Says They Will Stop Making Valve FPS Videos

There have been dark days for Team Fortress 2 Recently, as the bot crisis intensified, fans started a massive petition demanding Valve take action. Steam was bombarded with criticism and a growing feeling that the long-running FPS was starting to fail. But things are looking brighter now. Valve has taken action against the infamous bots, and two former Left 4 Dead and Half-Life developers have confirmed that a new TF2 comic is in the works. However, our community has just taken another blow, as a Team Fortress 2 legend confirms that he will no longer be producing videos about the beloved shooter.

Between the early days of in-house machinima, the later years of Source Filmmaker, and the pioneering work of “an0nymooose,” “CoreyLaddo,” and more, Team Fortress 2, like all Valve games, lives and dies by its community. With the FPS game’s bot problem finally being resolved and TF2’s new comic book confirmed, Team Fortress 2 video creator “elmaxo” sadly announces that he will no longer be making videos about the game.

“Today is July 15, 2024, which marks exactly three years since I created the elmaxo channel,” the creator explains. “It’s something I usually celebrate, but after much reflection, I’ve decided that today will also unfortunately mark the end of my creation of videos for TF2. I’ve thought about it a lot for over six months now and I’ve realized that creating content for TF2 no longer fulfills me as much as it used to.”

If you’re unfamiliar with elmaxo’s work, his best video is a documentary about “TF2’s Weirdest Player.” In 2022, elmaxo discovered a TF2 user named “Bing Soy” who seemed almost supernaturally capable of performing imaginative, bizarre, and improbable kills. In one example, Bing Soy jumps off a cliff, does a pirouette in mid-air, and hits an opponent in the head with a sniper rifle as he falls. Elmaxo is determined to hunt this player down, and what follows is one of the best videos in Team Fortress 2 history, which, at the time of writing, has racked up nearly ten million views.

Elmaxo said his channel would remain online and that he would continue to create videos focused on topics other than TF2. “I have loved every second of this journey and words cannot express how grateful I am to have had this opportunity in the first place,” he said. “I have the highest regard for the community that surrounds this game and will forever be indebted to you for making my childhood dream of becoming a YouTuber come true.”
