Man killed after truck runs stop sign in Lincoln County

VALE, NC (WBTV) – A man died Monday morning after a truck ran a stop sign and struck his vehicle in Lincoln County.

THE North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the accident happened on Highway 18 at Highway 10 around 7:20 a.m.

Officers said a Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling westbound on Highway 10 and failed to obey a stop sign. A Dodge pickup truck traveling southbound on Highway 18 struck the truck, causing the truck to roll over.

Authorities said the driver of the pickup truck, Barry Wilson McKee, 59, died at the scene. The driver of the truck, Jose Vargas Moreno, 31, was not injured. None of the three passengers in the truck were injured.

Following the crash, Moreno was arrested and charged with misdemeanor causing death by traffic accident, failure to have a driver’s license and failure to maintain the right of way. He was ordered to post $15,000 bail and is being held at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

Police said neither impairment nor speed were factors in the crash.
