Lake Country City Council Considers Major Housing Development Project

Lake Country City Council Considers Major Housing Development Project

The development at 11583-11615 Bottom Wood Lake Road offers 67 apartment units and six townhomes

A rezoning application to allow a large housing development near the south end of Wood Lake will go before district council on July 16.

The development (11583-11615 Bottom Wood Lake Rd.) offers 67 apartment units and six townhouses.

“The application was expedited by staff because the applicant agreed to voluntarily enter into a covenant to secure rental accommodation on the subject properties for a period of 10 years,” reads a staff report to council.

It also says a 2023 assessment of the intersection of Bottom Wood Lake and Woodsdale roads indicates it will not require a roundabout or traffic light in the future, and that growth can be managed with an all-way stop.

However, an assessment may be required, prior to the issuance of a building permit, to determine whether intersection improvements may be necessary.

The report notes that the development aligns with council’s strategic priorities, including needed housing and diversifying Lake Country’s tax base.
