Del Mar will offer a full set of betting options

From the Del Mar Turf Club Media Team:

Full set of bets available as Del Mar kicks off 85 season

A full range of betting options will be available to Del Mar fans as the seaside oval begins its 85th summer season starting this Saturday, July 20.

As usual, betting begins with the traditional Win/Place/Show bets and extends to five different multi-race exotic offerings: the Early Pick Four, Late Pick Four, Early Pick Five, Late Pick Five and Pick Six.

Pick Six, a fan favorite that has sometimes yielded life-changing wins, has returned to its traditional system – replacing last summer’s “single ticket bonus jackpot” – with the majority of its prize pool going to those who selected six winners and the remainder to those who selected five. In the past, that split was 70-30, but it will now be 80-20, offering an even bigger return to those who selected the most winners.

In total, there are 15 different ways to bet on each of the daily programmes, which will span from eight to 11 races on different afternoons throughout the eight-week season which runs until Sunday 8 September.

“We offer another very interesting betting menu that has proven extremely popular with our betting public,” said Bill Navarro, the track’s pari-mutuel wagering director. “From show bets to big swings, we have a bet of every type for our players.”

Several of Del Mar’s multi-race bets were lowered from $1 to 50 cents in 2021 and will continue to be offered that way this year. These include the Super High 5 – available on the final race of the day; the Early Pick Four (starting with Race 2); the Late Pick Four on the final four races of the day; and the Late Pick Five, available on the final five races of the afternoon.

Additionally, there will again be a Win/Place/Show combination bet available for a minimum of two races and a maximum of six. This is a $2 bet.

Aside from the popular Pick Six, the bets that generate the most interest among racing fans are the Late Pick Four and the Late Pick Five. Both of these bets regularly generate prize pools of over $1 million on the weekend, often resulting in four- and five-figure payouts.

The full range of Del Mar bets is as follows: $2 Win, Place and Show (all races); $1 Exacta (all); $2 Quinella (all); $2 Rolling Doubles (all but the last); $1 Rolling Pick 3 (all but the last two); $1 Superfecta (minimum 10 cents – all); $1 Place Pick All (starts with race 1 or 2); 50 cent Super High Five (last); 20 cent Pick Six (last six); 50 cent Players’ Pick 5 (first five and last five); 50 cent Pick 4 (races 2-5 and last four); and $2 Win-Place-Show Parlay (all races except the last).

Del Mar will open its season with a two-day weekend (July 20 and 21), then five four-day weeks (Thursday through Sunday), followed by a five-day week (including Labor Day Monday, Sept. 2), and finally conclude with a Friday-Sunday weekend (Sept. 7, 8 and 9). Most days, the first departure will be at 2 p.m.
