From January 1, cars in this category will be withdrawn from circulation, in accordance with a Cabinet decision published earlier this year.

Lt Col Mohammed Al Kitbi, director of the Driving Licenses and Vehicles Department of Abu Dhabi Police, told Khaleej Times that all necessary arrangements are in place to facilitate the speedy cancellation of these vehicles.

“To obtain the cancellation of a car’s registration, the owner must first pay all the fines accumulated for violations, whether registered with the traffic police or the municipality,” he stressed.

Lt. Col. Al Kitbi said that owners who wish to sell their vehicles to scrap dealers must provide a sale-purchase letter from the buyer, confirming the agreement.

The letter must be accompanied by the ownership card, the registration plate and a cancellation fee of 200 Dh.

For owners who wish to export their vehicles, the owner must submit a bill of lading along with an ownership card and a registration plate, he said, adding that the cancellation fee in this case is Dh300.
