BBC Breakfast forced to abort show after clumsy gaffe by live presenter | Plymouth Live

On Tuesday’s episode of BBC Breakfast, presenters Jon Kay and Nina Warhurst were joined by sports presenter Hugh Ferris to discuss the Lionesses’ next match in the Euro 2025 qualifiers.

England women’s team are set to face Sweden in Gothenburg today in the crucial final of the qualifiers. It has been announced that journalist Kate Cornelius is on site in Gothenburg to cover the event.

Nina started the segment with: “After the boys’ disappointment, let’s talk about the Lioness who brings the ball home.”

Hugh Ferris added: “Let’s just say the qualification process that UEFA has put in place has been very complicated. The Northern Island, Scotland and Wales can all get a play-off place,” the Express reports.

Looking at the camera, he added: “But it’s to the Lioness that we’re going in Gothenburg where a crucial match will take place. There’s our correspondent Kate who’s here ahead of the game. So England are just one point away from securing a place in the final.”

However, when the feed switched to Kate, viewers were met with an awkward silence as Kate was not audible and her image was blocked. The show had to quickly return to the studio after this issue.

“Well, we can all agree that Kate was in Gothenburg but she wasn’t moving,” Hugh joked, lightening the mood.

Speaking, he said: “Just saying in case we can’t get Kate back. One point is enough but of course a win is what the Lioness would want to make sure they are in the final and are the defending champions.”
