As The Acolyte As the series is about to conclude its first season, fans are wondering if Disney will renew it for a second season.

Although no announcement has been made on this subject The Acolyte Season 2, there are reasons to be optimistic: Disney often renews Star Wars shows like Andor And The Mandalorian for several seasons due to the franchise’s overwhelming popularity.

Premiered last month, The Acolyte takes place 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menaceexploring a series of Jedi murders by a powerful dark force user and investigating who is behind these gruesome deaths.

The series stars Lee Jung-jae as Sol, Amandla Stenberg as Osha and Mae, and Manny Jacinto.

Showrunner Leslye Headland had originally pitched The Acolyte As a multi-season project, the finale – airing July 16 – will likely leave some open storylines to be explored further in season two.

But fans need not worry: the first season finale will provide a satisfying conclusion to the mysteries revealed in previous episodes.

Promontory previously told Entertainment Weekly:”I’ve noticed that first seasons end where Act 2 should have ended. I feel like everyone really expects their show to get a second season, and I don’t think that’s a good idea. I put everything I had on the first season, because who knows what’s going to happen?”

Even though she gave it her all in the first season, she said she has “four or five major mysteries” she’d like to explore in season two, if the show is renewed.

In a recent interview with Nerdist, Headland hinted that “conversations” are happening behind the scenes about renewing the series, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

“I don’t know when that decision will be made,” she said.

Opinion on The Acolyte received mostly positive reviews from critics, garnering an 81% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but was more divided among fans, receiving only a 14% score on the review website.

But the low score could be because the series has been criticized by some, unhappy with its inclusive nature.

The series had previously faced heavy criticism after casting trans, non-binary and black actors, with Forbes saying the negative reviews were linked to the “racism, misogyny and general harassment of the cast that has poisoned every conversation about the show.”

Headland told the New York Times that she does not consider “anyone who engages in acts of bigotry, racism or hate speech” to be a fan of the franchise.

Although the show has been positively received by critics and some fans, data from analytics firm Nielsen suggests that The Acolyte has one of the lowest audience ratings of all Star Wars shows on Disney+ outside of Andor.

The Acolyte half the audience of Ahsoka and is 75% lower than The Mandalorianboth being part of the Star Wars franchise.

That doesn’t mean he won’t return for season 2, because Andor has already been renewed – and The Acolyte broke Disney+’s streaming record after its premiere in June.

But, The AcolyteThe future of the series is uncertain. Forbes stated that the series is unlikely to be renewed due to the exorbitant cost of its production.

“The cost estimates of The Acolyte “They estimated it at $180 million for what’s really eight thirty-minute episodes,” according to Forbes, suggesting that the high cost relative to the low audience numbers might not be worth it for Disney to renew.

So there are arguments on both sides as to why The Acolyte may or may not be renewed, but there is no concrete answer.

It is because of this uncertainty that #RenewTheAcolyte has been trending online in recent days, with fans expressing their desire for a second season.

Fans have particularly highlighted the show’s strengths and excellent casting choices, as well as the budding romance between Stenberg and Jacinto’s characters that could be the focus of a new season.

It’s unclear whether this will tip Disney one way or the other, so fans will have to look for clues in the finale to see if this hints at a new story in season two.

The Acolyte The first season finale will air on July 16 and is available on Disney+.
