‘We must end all witch hunts’: Trump abandons message of unity in violent rant

Former President Donald Trump linked a recent assassination attempt to criminal and civil charges filed against him Monday in a new post on Truth Social in response to the rejection of his classified documents filing.

Trump said he wanted to move forward with “the unity of our nation” before accusing prosecutors in an elaborate political witch hunt against him and E. Jean Carroll, the writer he was convicted of sexually abusing and repeatedly defaming, of lying.

“The Democrat Justice Department has coordinated ALL of these political attacks,” Trump wrote Monday, “which constitute an election interference conspiracy against Joe Biden’s political opponent, ME.”

Two days after Thomas Crooks, 20, pointed an AK-15 at the former president at a political rally, Trump lashed out at special counsel Jack Smith, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, New York Attorney General Letitia James and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

Smith accused Trump of Espionage Act violations and election interference, Bragg spearheaded the criminal conviction for falsifying business records, James successfully sued Trump for $464 million in civil fraud damages, and Willis accused Trump of election racketeering in Georgia.

Trump has called the cases witch hunts, hoaxes and scams. He said he “never met” Carroll other than in “a decades-old photo in a lineup with her husband at the time, that doesn’t count.”

Trump has been convicted twice of defamation — with awards of $5 million and $83.3 million — over allegations he never sexually abused Carroll.

“Dismissing the Florida indictment should be just the first step, followed quickly by ending ALL witch hunts,” Trump wrote. “Let’s come together to END all militarization of our justice system and make America great again!”
