Meet Ellie the Elephant, NY Liberty Mascot and Viral Sensation in Brooklyn | Brooklyn Bridge Parents

Whether or not you follow the WNBA’s New York Liberty, you may have heard of their mascot Ellie the Elephant, who has become a social media sensation for her dance moves, stylish looks, Barclays Center antics and general arrogance and calls Barclay’s Center her home.

Named after Ellis Island, Ellie became the official mascot of the New York Liberty two years ago in honor of the team’s 25th season, but this summer she’s in the spotlight, just like the team she cheers for. From her Beyoncé- and Lil’ Kim-inspired halftime performances to her varied red carpet looks to her Time Out NY cover, Ellie has become a celebrity in her own right.

Here’s what else you need to know about Ellie’s team, the New York Liberty:

  • With a 20-4 record, the 2024 Liberty are off to the best start through 24 games in franchise history.
  • In July, the Liberty became the first WNBA team to reach 20 wins.
  • Liberty players Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu have been selected to play for Team USA at the Paris Olympics. They are the first Liberty duo to represent the United States! WNBA season will take a one-month break during the Olympics
  • The WNBA season continues through September. Click here to see Liberty’s full game schedule. Home games at Barclays typically start at 7 p.m. on weekdays. Buy your tickets here ; tickets typically start at $35 per person.
