Kingsville Considers Purchasing One or More School Properties

The City of Kingsville is considering purchasing one or more school properties that will be put up for sale when the new Erie Migration District school opens in September.

The new school will replace Kingsville District High School, Kingsville Public School and Jack Miner Public School.

The city wants to hear from its residents, so it is holding a public information session on July 29. The meeting, which will be held at the Grovedale Arts and Culture Centre, will begin at 6 p.m.

City staff will make a presentation and provide options to residents. They will provide information on the provincial legislative process that determines how school properties are sold and will assess the pros and cons of purchasing the land.

Those unable to attend the meeting can watch the live stream on the city’s website.

“This is one of the most important decisions in our community, and we hope to see a strong turnout, both in person and online, to determine if there is a public appetite for purchasing and redeveloping these properties,” said Mayor Dennis Rogers.

Kingsville will also collect public feedback through its citizen engagement portal, HaveYourSayKingsville.ca. The portal will open on July 30 and close at the end of August.

“Council identified the future use of closed school properties as a priority, and city administration has worked diligently on this,” said City Manager John Norton.

City councilors will receive a report on their options this fall.
