Donald Trump assassination attempt: Biden issues message against ‘potential assassin’ as Republicans meet to choose vice presidential nominee

US President and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden took to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to criticize a “potential assassin,” a day after Republican nominee Donald Trump survived an alleged assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.

“The power to change America must always rest in the hands of the people, not in the hands of a would-be assassin. Choices between competing visions and campaigns must always be made peacefully, not through acts of violence,” Joe Biden wrote on X.

A previous tweet from Joe Biden caught the attention of internet users just hours after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. On July 13, Biden tweeted: “I want to ban assault weapons and require universal background checks. Trump promised the NRA he would do nothing about guns. And he means it.”

Hours later, a 20-year-old registered Republican attempted to assassinate Donald Trump at his rally in Pennsylvania.

Then a shooting occurred that shook the foundations of American politics.

Suddenly, the Democrats’ post-debate turmoil, the Republican Party’s potential agenda, and even Trump’s criminal convictions became secondary to concerns about political violence and the country’s stability.

The presumptive Republican nominee and his allies will face the nation at their four-day convention in Milwaukee, unmistakably united and ready to “fight,” as a bloodied Trump shouted Saturday as Secret Service agents at his Pennsylvania rally ushered him to safety.
