Columbus, Ohio Police Department Arrests Man Carrying Hamsters in His Jumpsuit

Police arrested a man with hamsters inside the leopard-print jumpsuit he was wearing in Hilliard, Ohio, on Tuesday, July 9.

Matthew Pancake has been charged after allegedly burglarizing multiple stores, including a pet store.

Columbus police said they responded to the burglaries and observed the suspect on surveillance video.

Body camera footage showed officers found Pancake asleep on a bench before handcuffing him. While searching Pancake, officers found shards of glass in his jumpsuit and a dog collar on him.

The officers then found hamsters, mistaken for gerbils, in his pants. One officer is heard saying: “Several gerbils.” Another responds: “What the hell is this?”
