Officials work to make Albuquerque bus stops safer

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – City leaders spoke to the media Monday about efforts to make Albuquerque’s bus stops safer.

APD Chief Harold Medina spoke of a special operation officers worked on that processed 106 felony warrants in two weeks.

“We wanted to, first of all, clean up the bus stops. I’m tired of getting complaints that people are using fentanyl and people are hanging around these places. And most importantly, there are people who have warrants for crimes that should be in jail at these places,” Medina said.

Last year they also created a new security guard position to patrol areas near bus stops and train stations.

The special bus stop operations are currently taking place on Central Ave. and at the main Alvarado transit hub, but officials hope to implement the changes citywide soon.
